Several films deal with libertinism by exploring the freedom of morals, sensuality and ethics of human relationships, while offering varied visions of this way of life. Today, we decided to present some of them to you, the next ones next week.
1. The More the Fools (2005)

This John Curran film, also known as We Don't Live Here Anymore , addresses the complex and libertine relationships between two couples. Through intersecting plots and relationships, the film explores desire, fidelity and the challenges of modern libertinism. It asks questions about morality, passion and the boundary between love and possession.
2. 9 ½ Weeks (1986)

This classic erotica directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke, tells the story of an intense and passionate relationship. The protagonists engage in sensual and libertine games, exploring the limits of pleasure and control. 9 ½ Weeks shows how desire can both bind and test lovers.
3. Love (2015)

Directed by Gaspar Noé, this 3D film explores a loving and sensual relationship in a raw, uncompromising and unfiltered staging. By tracing the ups and downs of a passionate relationship, Love offers a dive into the complexity of human feelings and physical attachments. Gaspar Noé questions here the boundaries between passion, possession and freedom.
4. The Beautiful Noisemaker (1991)

Directed by Jacques Rivette, this French film depicts the relationship between a painter and his model, exploring nudity and artistic sensuality. Although not a libertine film in the strict sense, La Belle Noiseuse celebrates the freedom of bodies and the surrender to desire, offering a reflection on the link between art, desire and intimate exploration. The film raises the question of artistic and personal freedom in the context of creation.
5. The Secretary (2002)

In this film by Steven Shainberg, we follow the story of a young secretary (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and her boss (James Spader), who enter into a relationship based on games of domination and submission. Secretary explores the themes of sexual freedom and the acceptance of one's own desires, while respecting consent. This film addresses the complexity of libertine relationships with humor, subtlety and sensitivity.
These films offer a variety of perspectives on libertinism, showing both its pleasures and its dangers, while addressing deep themes such as freedom, passion and social conventions.
